PITCHER PLANT

$69.99

Latin Name: Nepenthes "pitcher"

Description: Also called a 'Monkey Cup', this tropical carnivorous plant captures insects and other prey by means of their "pitchers" which are modified leaves that function as traps. Insects are attracted to nectar secreted on the underside of the lid, and often end up slipping into the pool of liquid at the bottom of the pitchers, and are unable to escape. They are eventually digested, supplying the plant with nutrients. They are incredibly interesting, unique plants with loads of character, well suited to a bright, sunny window.

Watering: Prefers to be on the damp side. use a soil that contains sphagnum or peat moss to help retain moisture. Soak in water until the bubbles stop, and wait until the top 1/3 of soil dries out. A good benchmark is about once every 10 days in ideal conditions.

Growth Rate: Medium
Shape:  Trailing, Self-Mounding
Sun or Shade: Bright, indirect light
Difficulty level: Medium; specific watering care
