Pruning Group 2 Clematis

Clematis vines in pruning group 2 are repeat bloomers, they first bloom in the spring from buds that set the previous year, and on new growth in the late summer.
They bloom on old wood, and do not tend to die back down to the ground in the winter.
Lightly prune out the dead and weak stems in the spring only once the first blooms have been spent. Only clear out dead and untidy stems to encourage a second set of fall blooms.
